• • _ <br />e. 1 — Ignacio <br />f. 1 — Pagosa Springs <br />g. 1— the Southern Ute Reservation <br />h. 1— the Mountain Ute Reservation <br />Note: If schools within the proposed districts are unwilling or unable to become part of <br />the Education Initiative, those kits will be made available to schools in the South Platte <br />Basin. <br />MANUAL MODIFICATIONS <br />Research and editing will be completed to modify manuals to reflect weather, <br />geography and resources in each of the three basins. <br />SCHOOL DISTRICT/TEACHER CONTACTS, TESTING AND SUPPORT <br />GENTLE EARTH WIII contact educators in each district a minimum of six times in the <br />remainder of school year 2000/2001 as follows: <br />1. Initial contacts with science or curriculum coordinators in each district by phone will <br />establish an awareness of the CWCB Education Initiative as well as identify the best <br />teacher to pilot the kit. <br />2. Second phone contact with recommended teachers to describe the project and the <br />materials and set a delivery/training date. <br />3. A copy of the teacher's manual for Water's Ways will be mailed to each selected <br />teacher, along with a pre-test of water knowledge, developed by the CWCB <br />Education Initiative Coordinator for the Water Initiative project. Pre-test will be <br />returned to the CWCB Education Initiative coordinator by mail. <br />4. An on-site visit to introduce teacher(s) to the Water Cycle kits. <br />5. Two internet "newsletters" to provide on-going instructional support and project <br />awareness. These would be used to keep teachers aware of the project timeline <br />and to encourage them to e-mail either Gentle Earth or the CWCB Education <br />Initiative coordinator with questions or concerns. Newsletters to be sent out in <br />February and in April. <br />TEACHER TRAINING <br />Judith Daley from GErvT�E EARTH EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES will join Nancy Kellogg <br />CWCB Education Initiative Coordinator, to provide a formal teacher training in the use <br />of the kits, as well as other water education materials, in March. It is expected that <br />three sessions will be presented, in Alamosa, Durango, and La Junta. <br />COLORADO PLATEAU/WESTERN SLOPE VERSION OF THE WATERSHED MANUAL <br />Judith Daley will perform research and development of the Colorado Plateau/Western <br />Slope version of the watershed manual. <br />Page 4 of 5 <br />
