Results of operation studies 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 are summlarized in
table 2. The increase in water utilization in terms of increased con-
sumptive use by lands and increased reservoir evaporation as the capac-
ity of Narrows reservoir is increased is shown in figure 1. This shows
that at a capacity of 825,000 acre -feet for Narrows Reservoir, one acre -
foot of water is being evaparated for an increase of one acre -foot in
consumptive use on the cropped area. From the standpoint of conserva-
tion it is probable that more efficient utilization of water could be
achieved elsewhere in the basin after a point in reservoir size is
reached where increased evaporation equals increased consumptive use.
In the ovent that the Blue -South Platte Project is not built
as ^lanned or construction is delayed for rcany years, Operation No.
8 - -an operation study made with historical flows, nlus increased flows
from the Colorado -Big Thompson Project, present system of off - channel
reservoirs, and a reservoir of 825,000 acre -feet capacity at Narrows- -
was made to shove how the project could operate under those conditions.
'fable 3 contains a summary of Operations No. 2 and No. 8 and shows the
decrease in annual shortages due to the 825,000 acre -foot reservoir.
Possible Shortages
Shortages are shown as shortages in consumptive use requirement
and as a percent of total consumptive use requirement. In general
it was desired to attempt to roep the maximum annual shortage below
25 percent or where there are only 3 or 4 years of shortages in the
most critical 10 -year period to keep the accumulative shortage over
the critical. 10 -year period below 75 percent.
- *1iati:n&- _bene®ffts, It was - 'ecided that for the purpose of evaluating
0
