If 1997 <br />Floodplain Management Accomplishments <br />Flood Hazard Identi and Designation <br />♦ Designation and approval of technical engineering information for over 442 floodplain studies. statewide <br />♦ Approximately 16,000 miles of identified 100 -year floodplains by detailed and approximate methods <br />♦ Development of standards for delineating 100 -year floodplains by detailed and approximate methods for <br />Colorado's stream courses <br />♦ Coordination and co- sponsoring of 10 to 15 floodplain studies annually conducted under the auspices of <br />the federal government <br />Flood Response and Flood Hazard Reduction <br />♦ Assistance in advanced measures and flood fights in 1976, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1993, 1995, and 1996 <br />♦ Engineering assistance to communities to formulate and implement local flood mitigation projects <br />Community Assistance and Public Education <br />♦ Assist 223 county and community governments (out of 334 total in Colorado) in maintaining eligibility in <br />the National Flood Insurance Program, which represents a 67.5% participation rate. <br />♦ Provided technical assistance as necessary to both participating and non - participating communities <br />♦ Achieved 25.98% flood insurance coverage for structures within the state's floodplains in 1995. <br />(Colorado now has the 7th highest rate in the nation) <br />♦ Assist realtors, insurance agents,' mortgage lenders and others in obtaining and using floodplain <br />information,. <br />♦ Conduct public education efforts with workshops and seminars to reduce the risk of future flood damages <br />in Colorado <br />
