0289 <br /> I' A map prepared on a geographic information system (GIS) (Figure 3) shows the <br />location of the wells and the nitrate . results graphed in Figure 2. Wells on the map have been <br />t color coded according to the nitrate level measured in the well. The wells in green have <br />nitrate levels below the laboratory detection level of 0.5 mg/L. Wells in yellow indicate <br />nitrate present in the sample but below the drinking water standard of 10 mg/L. Wells <br />represented in red indicate nitrate levels exceeding the EPA drinking water standard. The <br />elevated nitrate levels (above the EPA drinking water standard) appear to be concentrated in <br />three areas: Pueblo County near Avondale, Otero County between Fowler and La Junta, and <br />Prowers County near Lamar and Granada. <br />ro <br />
