The, _remaining portion is returned to the river to replace the <br />return flow lost by not applying 11.24 percent of the Cat_lin's diversion. <br />Thi_%_rep acement_- does < -nat add- any _nev- wat.er to, the system, but i_� does <br />alter the timing of the available w -Under normal operation <br />simulation, the annual return flow of about 1,300 acre -feet (1.6x10 m <br />would reach the river at an approximately steady rate of 110 acre -feet <br />(1.4x10 m per month. Under the change in water use plan most.of this <br />6 3 <br />1, acr -feet (1 m ) reaches the river during the middle of the <br />irrigation season and_is available to other irrigators. Under normal <br />conditions, 55 ac re -feet (6.8x10 m of the return flow of this water <br />would reach the river in the winter and would be stored in John Martin <br />,_. <br />Reservoir and, upon release--220 acre -feet (2.7x10 5 m 3 ) would go to <br />Kansas. Reuse of this 220 acre -feet (2.7x10 m could increase the total <br />new supply for Colorado to about 280 acre -feet (3.5x10 m Another <br />very noticeable effect of this change in timing is seen in the early <br />spring of most years.
