be consolidated and classified according to basic value, <br />relative flood risk and probable degree of damage under <br />flood frequency probabilities. Basic data currently <br />acquired in this category will require further correlation <br />with other data sources to yield factual information for <br />average annual damage evaluation. We currently have <br />specific information on the value of approximately 4,000 <br />pieces of property in the flood plains of the basin and by <br />sampling techniques plan to apply this information to the <br />major portion of the property involved. <br />5. Miscellaneous Data.- In addition to the progress indicated in <br />the previous paragraphs, considerable work has been completed <br />on miscellaneous data which is essential to the flood control <br />investigation. This includes: <br />a. Plotting of the stream bed profiles of the main stem and <br />tributaries under study in order to provide a basis for <br />defining flood profiles when the hydrologic and hydrau- <br />lic data is completed. Stream bed profiles from USGS <br />quad sheet topographic data has been plotted for the <br />entire main stem and the major tributaries in the Denver <br />metropolitan region. <br />b. Establishing of study reaches. Study reaches have been <br />established on the entire main stem and the tributaries <br />of the Denver metropolitan region. The reaches have <br />been set at approximately 1 mile lengths thru urban <br />areas and 5 mile reaches thru rural areas. Reaches <br />have been numbered and coded for the main stem and for <br />each tributazy and have been referenced to street inter - <br />cepts, natural features or legal land descriptions as <br />applicable to permit analysis of economic and hydraulic <br />data applicable to given localities by machine punch <br />card methods. <br />c. Stream bank profiles of the main stem and tributaries <br />in the metropolitan area have been plotted from <br />topographic data. <br />d. Preliminary channel and valley cross sections have been <br />plotted from available topographic data for the main <br />stem and tributaries in the Denver metropolitan region. <br />6. The steps scheduled for first priority (Denver metropolitan region) <br />are: <br />a. Complete preliminary hydrology (scheduled for completion <br />about July 1959). <br />b. Complete preliminary hydraulics (scheduled for completion <br />in late 1959). <br />- 3 - <br />
