OVID LIONS CLUB 9
Ovid, Colorado
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Reclamation conforming to the Pick -Sloan plan for
flood control and irrigation for the Missouri River drainage area, was
given the carrying out of the flood and irrigation project known as the
"Narrows Dam" and has performed a considerable amount of preliminary work
on the project, and
WHEREAS, some objection has arisen to the proposed project and delayed
further preliminary work, and
WHEREAS, the members of the Lions Club of Ovid, Colorado, at a meeting of
the club held in Ovid, Colorado, on April 2, 1952, discussed and considered
very fully and carefully, among other things, the said Narrows Dam Project,
and
WHEREAS, the said club was of the unanimous opinion that the construction
of said project will be of special value to Northeastern Colorado, and
particularly to the irrigatUo.: interests and irrigated lards of the
members of said club, for the following reasons:,
1. The Narrows Dam will provide protection to the property on the South
Platte River below said dam from often occurring floods.
2. The Narrows Dam will provide storage of water at times when the water
is not needed by other appropriators, which water when so stored can be
used for further development of lands in the South Platte Valley by pro-
viding water for lands now not supplied with water in the State of Colorado.
That there exists at this time a large acreage of land under said proposed
dam that is wholly without irrigation water.
3. It is necessary to provide a stream reservoir to impound any waters
brought from the Colorado River that cannot be immediately used but may
be used later. Unless this is done there is grave that the
Colorado River Compact may become vulnerable, and vital water lost to
Colorado development forever.
4.. The club has no doubt but that the Department of the Interior acting
through the Reclamation Bureau will respect and recognize the vested
rights of all wager users as it has done in the past. That the representa-
tives of the Reclamation Bureau have repeatedly given the assurance that it
will so respect and recognize such vested rights. That the consummation
of the Narrows Dam project will then assure the continuance of our present
invaluable water rights and priorities under the laws of Colorado.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lions Club of Ovid, Colorado, hereby
earnestly approve and strongly endorse in every way the ccnstruction of
the "Narrows Dam" Project and urges that work thereon be resumed and
carried on to completion without delay according to the plans of the
Reclamation Bureau.
