Phyllis Woodford, <br />Program Manager with the Department, reported that prog- <br />ress is being made in CAFO permitting and inspections. <br />Dennis Ellis was appointed by Governor Owens as the <br />new Director of the CDPHE. Ellis, originally from Wyo- <br />ming, worked as an agriculture policy advisor to Congress- <br />woman Barbara Cubin of Wyoming then most recently <br />served as Senior Policy Advisor to Governor Owens. <br />The meeting between the Department and ag stakehold- <br />ers also touched on an array of issues ranging from Housed <br />Confined Swine Feeding Operations permitting, lagoon <br />covers, and air quality issues, the Colorado Air Quality <br />Control Commission's subcommittee work on air quality in <br />Candidate Campaign School <br />The Colorado Farm Bureau will be hosting a Candidate <br />School on March 23 -24, in Centennial. The purpose of the <br />school is to help current and other potential candidates who <br />are interested in running for public office and want to ex- <br />ecute successful political campaigns. The school is open to <br />those interested in seeking any public office, regardless if <br />you are a first -time candidate or veteran office holder. <br />The Campaign Management Training Seminar was <br />developed by AFBF with input from political consultants <br />and staff from both political parties. Topics include: how <br />to successfully announce your candidacy, selecting a cam- <br />paign theme and key issues, identifying and targeting vot- <br />ers, overall campaign structure, volunteer recruitment and <br />coordination, budget preparation, fund raising, and work- <br />ing with the media.
