Phyllis Woodford, Program Manager with the Department, reported that prog- ress is being made in CAFO permitting and inspections. Dennis Ellis was appointed by Governor Owens as the new Director of the CDPHE. Ellis, originally from Wyo- ming, worked as an agriculture policy advisor to Congress- woman Barbara Cubin of Wyoming then most recently served as Senior Policy Advisor to Governor Owens. The meeting between the Department and ag stakehold- ers also touched on an array of issues ranging from Housed Confined Swine Feeding Operations permitting, lagoon covers, and air quality issues, the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission's subcommittee work on air quality in Candidate Campaign School The Colorado Farm Bureau will be hosting a Candidate School on March 23 -24, in Centennial. The purpose of the school is to help current and other potential candidates who are interested in running for public office and want to ex- ecute successful political campaigns. The school is open to those interested in seeking any public office, regardless if you are a first -time candidate or veteran office holder. The Campaign Management Training Seminar was developed by AFBF with input from political consultants and staff from both political parties. Topics include: how to successfully announce your candidacy, selecting a cam- paign theme and key issues, identifying and targeting vot- ers, overall campaign structure, volunteer recruitment and coordination, budget preparation, fund raising, and work- ing with the media. Participants in the school have had a 70% success rate when they ran for a public office.
