The added storage at John Martin will
result in better fishing conditions next summer," Prenzlow
said.
Once the water reaches John Martin Reservoir, it will become
part of the permanent storage pool. John Martin Reservoir is
bordered on the east and north by a state park, and on the
west and south by a state wildlife area.
If downstream users call for water before March or if stream
flows are maintained at a minimum of 50 cfs, then the water
board will retain the water in Pueblo Reservoir, thereby
reducing the final cost to the state. So far, none of the water
has been used.
In February 2005, flows through Pueblo were shut down for
about three weeks because of a similar issue with balancing
winter water accounts. Witte said the emergency lease is a
result of planning made after the 2005 episode that
threatened fish habitat along the river.
8 Email ra Print
8 save r Popular
Discuss this article in our forums!
Nextl
Please send us your comments and suggestions ©1996 -2007 w
or e-mail our Webmaster.
