jal' •;'.I •' Y ' i'JY I1 • 1 f •1'f VY •;. .
The purpose of this report was to assemble available technical data pertinent
to Lake San Cristobal including assessment of the hydrologic and hydraulic
aspects of the existing outlet channel.
The information contained in the report was assembled to assist the
Commissioners of Hinsdale County and the Colorado Water Conservation Board in
determining a corrective action for stabalizing or repairing the erosion
control structure and outflow channel of Lake San Cristobal.
As a natural lake, the structure is exempt from the statutes and the rules and
regulations governing construction, operation, modification, and repair of
man -made reservoir dams in Colorado. 1* The exemption is based .on the
formation of the lake by natural forces, the Siumgullion slide, and the
absence of a low level outlet to accommodate controlled releases. Any repair
measure, however, which results in an increase in the lake level above the
existing historic level would negate the exemption from state regulation.
Because of the exempt status of the lake, specific design criteria does not
apply for purposes of evaluation with respect to minimum safety standards.
Information was available from the files in the division office for the
Divison of Water Resources, Montrose. The hydrologic modeling was also
performed in the division office. A preliminary hydrology and subsurface
soils report was provided by Hinsdale County.
*Numbers refer to reference at the end of text.
