.. Ftl3 -lL -dl rmu ill
The survey results confirm a number of opinions that I have stated in earlier reports including:
• Nighttime use is popular
• The course is used every month of the year
• Many boaters prefer the higher flows
• . The prime use is in May -June which is when the highest flows exist
Some people report that it is one of the best courses available
• Some people prefer ;lows above 1000cfs and have boated those flows at the course
Optimal Flows
The optimal flow ranges reported do not take into account the fact that even intermediates, and
others that may prefer lower flows, will continue to use the Course at higher flows because there
are still intennediate sections of the course at those higher flows. In fact, although they may not
find the flows optimum, they will still boat the course and observe the more advanced boaters in
more difficult whitewater features. Other boaters will travel long distances to boat the high flows.
As a result, the optimum flow in terms of maximurn use will likely occur at flows above the
median ranges reported by Shelby. Moreover, the higher flows are best for competions.
Please contact me if you would like any supplemental opinions or more detailed
explanations.
Sin rely,
Gary M. lacy, P.E.
