protect the legal access for boaters for recreational use of our sport.
We also arrange for over 100 different social trips throughout the year
on the different rivers throughout Colorado. These recreational parks
are very beneficial to the cities in which these parks are. For example,
last year Eddie Bauer sponsored a rodeo series at the Golden Play
Park, brought in a lot of money and it brought in a lot of people. This
year, we have the Front Range Rodeo Series that's going to be at
Confluence, at the Union Play Park and at Golden. It's sponsored by
Tether [sp], which is obviously a very large company, which is also
going to bring in a lot of money for our state. We're very opposed to
this bill and if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
Mme. Chair: Are there any questions for the witnesses? If not, thank you very
much. I was going to say that it looks to me like 5.1 million people
tried kayaking in '99, but only 600 thousand liked it. Am I reading
this correctly?
Man: I'm not sure that's the correct interpretation.
Man: Madam Chair?
•
Mme. .;'hair: Senator Entz.
Sen. Entz: I'd like to make a comment to the couple here that we're not against
kayaking. CWCB is not against kayaking and we do have two boat
chutes already. So remember that.
Tvlme. Chair: 'Thank you. The next person is from Breckenridge, it's Tim Gagin.
Would you help us on that?
Tim Gagin: It's Gagin.
• Man: Madam Chair? I need Chris Paulson next after this gentleman.
Mme. Chair: All right. He's not signed up as for or against though, so you may
want to reconsider.
Man: [unintelligible]
Mme. Chair: All right. Mr. Gagin.
Tim Gagin: Good afternoon, Madam Chair. My name is Tim Gagin. I'm the town
manager for Breckenridge. And my mayor and town council have
asked me to come and express our opposition to this bill. And I also
have been asked by the Summit County Commissioners to do the
same. Our reasons for opposing this bill are ones you've already
April 12, 2001
Page 21
