The members of Columbine High School's faculty, staff, student 30 <br /> body and alumni know that they cannot give back to everyone. With this thought in mind, 31 <br /> The Heart of Columbine was created to encourage community involvement with youth. 32 <br /> The Heart of Columbine is inviting other schools across the country to develop The Heart 33 <br /> • of Columbine program in their communities. The Heart of Columbine Day has been set -aside for the people of the state of 52 <br /> Colorado to remember, but also to focus on the positive contributions that youth are making 53 <br /> in their communities. 54 <br /> 55 <br /> So far this semester, The Heart of Columbine has been very successful. On February 14, The 56 <br /> National Honor Society finished a canned food drive and collected over 7200 items which 57 <br /> were given to The Food Bank of the Rockies. The Art Club is making ceramic bowls to be 58 <br /> sold. The boy's basketball team collected money at their last game of the season. The Bible 59 <br /> Club is traveling to The Denver Rescue Mission one day a month. Peer counseling has put 60 <br /> r our money jars throughout the community. United in Action (the diversity club) promoted 61 <br /> The Heart of Columbme at the Peace Jam Conference that was held in Denver in February 62 <br /> and they are donating portions of their wages from their employers. FCCLA has worked in 63 <br /> the soup kitchen at The Denver Rescue Mission. The choir department will be sponsoring a 64 <br /> talent show on April 25 in which all proceeds will go to The Heart of Columbine. The CHS 65 <br /> • Debate team is working through Children International to sponsor a child in the Philippines. 66 <br /> The Debate team is also teaming up with Normandy Elementary and together will sponsor two 67 <br /> children next year. The football team is going out in the community and volunteering to do 68 <br /> yard work. The upper level math class is selling graphing calculator covers and the proceeds 69 <br /> will go to Compa Food Ministries. 70 <br /> 71 <br /> This past Saturday The Heart of Columbine sponsored its First Annual The Heart of 72 <br />
