STORMWATER RUNOFF QUALITY AND QUANTITY FROM TRADITIONAL AND LOW IMPACT DEVELOPMENT WATERSHEDS
<br />In contrast, storm flow and peak flow from the res-
<br />idential development that incorporated LID concepts
<br />decreased compared with predevelopment conditions.
<br />TKN and NH mass exports from the LID watershed
<br />significantly decreased during the postconstruction
<br />period. Concentrations and exports of Pb and Zn were
<br />significantly reduced in stormwater from the LID
<br />development during postdevelopment conditions. Sur-
<br />prisingly, TSS and TP concentrations and exports
<br />increased during postconstruction in LID runoff.
<br />Many studies have demonstrated the benefits of
<br />individual BMPs. This paired watershed study dem-
<br />onstrated that implementing the LID design signifi-
<br />cantly reduced storm flow and mass exports of
<br />several pollutants in stormwater compared with the
<br />traditional development. LID can likely improve
<br />stormwater quantity and quality over traditional
<br />development methods in this region of the U.S.
