Organizations

Organizational responses included those from both environmental and sportsmen's groups. Typically,
responses from environmental groups were less favorable than those of the sportsmen.

Environmental groups, Sierra Club Legal Defense, National Wildlife Federation, and Colorado Water
Congress, were most concerned about breaches of protection of endangered species and the
uncertainty of escapement potential. Only one of those groups, Sierra Club, however. stated clear
opposition to stocking tiger muskies. The others recommended conservative measures, such as slow,
incremental introduction of tiger muskies, or more research into escapement issues before decision are
made.

Sportsmen's groups responses typically were consistent with the primary interests of their groups. The
strongest supporters were Muskies, Inc., Colorado Walleye Association (CWA), United Sportsman's
Council, San Luis Valley Trout Unlimited, and Rifle Sportsman's Club. The primary reason for their
support was in the interest of sport fishing and angler opportunities. Muskies and CWA encouraged
that the numbers and size of the fish stocked be increased. These two organizations were also
responsible for the majority of individual responses received.

Other sportsmen's groups, Colorado BASS Federation, Colorado Trout Unlimited, and Western
Colorado BASS Anglers were concerned about the impact of predator tiger muskies on their
organization's primary fish interest, Le., prey on salmonoids, muskie stocking resulting in reduction of
stocking other warm water fish.

TABLE V: Positive Comments - Organizations

Comments 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 TOT
Agree with risk analysis X X X 3
Support stocking Tiger Muskies X X X X X X 6
Sport fishing/angler opportunities X X X X X X 6
Suggest slow, incremental stocking X X X 3
Good fish manage men t alternative X X 2
Stock more & larger tiger muskies X X 2
Suitable sites: X
All
Continental
Green Mtn.
Harvey Gap X X X 3
Hallenback X 1
Juniata
Platoro
Rio Blanco

6

4/14/94
