18

station, these readings do not indicate normal streamflow, Figure 6
shows the discharge of the South Fork above Wagonwheel Creek for portions
of the water year 1961 as determined by the company's gage. This chart
indicates that the instrument was affected by ice in winter.
Stream discharges were measured at each sampling station from
one to four times during the summer and fall of 1962. Using these
measurements and U.S.G.S. records, mean discharges at Stations IV, V,
and VI were estimated. Curves were drawn from points established by -the
proportion X/Y = x/y (Figure 7), where:
X = mean discharge at the station
Y = a measured discharge at the station on a date in 1962
x = the mean discharge (U.S.G.S.) at Buford on or near the
calendar date of Y
y = the discharge (U.S,G.S.) at Buford on or near the actual
date of Y.
The hazards of projecting, mean streamflows for considerable
distances upstream by this method are realized; however, lacking histor-
is records, the projections will be useful until more reliable data are
available.
Based upon available data the mean natural flows at sampling
stations in late summer and winter have been estimated (Table 4).
Table 4.--ESTIMATED MEAN FLOWS (c.f.s.)
