c
w
ABSTRACT
In order to obtain detailed information on the stream environments and
existing fish populations that may be affected by water developments of '
the Rocky Mountain Power Company, nine sample stations were surveyed on
Sweetwater Creek and the South Fork of the White River. Stations were .
mapped from one to four times at different rates of discharge between
July 1 and ;.vovember 15, 1962. At two stations, normal flaws were di-
versed to side channels so as to obtain data at flaws below those -occur-
ring naturally.
Stream depths, velocities, and habitat types were measured at varying
rates of discharge. Fish populations were sampled by eiectrofishing.
Scale samples were taken for future analysis. Fishing waters were clas-
sified as to the landowner's policy with regard to public access.
Plans of the Rocky Mountain Power Company, as given in the application for
Federal Power Commission license (No. 2289), are sunnnarized.
Nearly 200 photographs showing stream characteristics at different rates
of discharge are on file.
Historic stream flow records were analyzed. Watershed conditions and ex-
tent of erosion are described. Effects on streamflow of an outbreak of
Engelmann Spruce Bark Beetle are discussed.
After analyzing the data concerning historic flows, seasonal fluctuations, .
habitat type areas, trout food production, and fish populations, prelims- ..
nary estimates were made of optimum stream flows at sample stations.
Recommendations include continuation of the stream surveys for at least
one additional season.
