and electrophoresis studies prior to fin-clipping. Another 22 fish were also
lost prior to fin-clipping; 13 fish were sucked into a portable pump during
pond draining (2 preserved), and 9 fish were lost to mortality in the indoor
tanks (7 preserved). Nine fish were lost after the fin-clipping; 2 were lost
to mortality in the tanks (1 preserved), and 7 fish were lost to mortality in
transit to the stocking sites (6 preserved). Results of the 21-22 September
weigh, measure, and fin-clipping are found in Figure 1. 1271 fish between the
sizes of 40-120 mm TL (mean=71 mm) were measured. These fish weighed a total
of 4,875 g (3.84 g/ fish).
STOCKING
On 23 September, 1262 fish were stocked into backwater habitats of the
Green River in the vicinity of Red Wash boat ramp (RMI 298.0). The ramp is
located approximately 6'miles south of Hwy. 40, off Hwy 264, east of the town
of Jensen, Utah. 400 fish were stocked into a backwater at RMI 297.8, 400
fish in a backwater at RMI 297.5, and 462 fish in a backwater at RMI 297.0.
On 27 September, razorback suckers from pond 03 with the right pelvic fin
removed were recaptured in the backwater habitats at RMI 297.0 and RMI 295.5.
One fish came from RMI 297.0, and 3 fish came from RMI 295.5. Total lengths
for these fish were 72 mm, 81 mm, 67 mm, and 60 mm respectively: On 12
October, a single fish with a total length between 51-60 mm, was recaptured in
a backwater habitat at RMI 291.8. On 14 December, a 72 mm TL fish was
recaptured just outside of a backwater habitat at RMI 286.0. All of these
recaptured fish were measured and then re-released. It appears at present
the fish are moving downriver, and at the same time, exploiting other
backwater habitats.
