snails, and terrestrial insects that became trapped and drown in the water. <br />Analysis of stomach samples, and study of all possible food sources in the <br />pond should be initiated in the future. <br />During the razorback sucker's internment in the pond, water temperatures <br />varied from 13-250C (mean=20.80C). Dissolved oxygen levels varied between <br />6.2-13.1 ppm, with a mean of 9.2 ppm (Table 6.). On 15 September, the water <br />level in the pond was pulled down, and fish removal began. All fish were <br />removed from the pond by 22 September, a total of 1323 fish (88.2% <br />survivability). The missing 177 fish (11.8%) were probably lost more to <br />predators than other causes. A problem with cormorants using the pond was <br />found during the summer months (June-August). Other predators observed in the <br />pond included great blue herons, mergansers, water snakes, muskrats, and <br />frogs. In contrast, a count of the fish used in the feed trial's during this <br />same time period yeilded only 258 fish (43% survivability). After being <br />seined from the pond, the fish were put into indoor holding tanks. During 21- <br />22 September, the fish were weighed, measured, and fin-clipped. <br />Individual total lengths for the fish were taken using a metric measuring <br />board and recorded in millimeters. The fish were weighed in lots of 20 fish <br />to the nearest gram, the exception being one lot of 11 fish. All fish were <br />weighed on a 1,000 x 2 gram platform scale. All fish that were weighed and <br />measured , were also fin-clipped. Fin-clipping involved removing the right <br />pelvic fin at it's insertion with the body of the fish, using heavy duty <br />cuticle clippers or sewing scissors. No antibiotic solutions or anesthesia <br />were utilized. <br />Of the 1323 fish removed, 26 were placed in an aquarium at the CRFP office <br />in Vernal, Utah.
