2

ADMINISTRATION
Following signing of the MOU in April 1979, project activities started
with hiring staff, arranging for facilities and procurring equipment to
carry out the programs stipulated under this agreement. Primary personnel
selections were completed by June and most of the field equipment assembled
by July. Field methods and data requirements were developed through
June and July. Full scale field activities commenced on July 16 and
continued through'November when cold temperatures forced a cessation of
activities in the field.
Utah State University contracted with CRFP on December 7, 1979 to determine
temperature and total dissolved solids tolerance, preferance and swimming
performance of humpback chub, bonytail chub, Colorado squawfish and
razorback sucker. In addition they will be doing a field study on the
movements, food habits and reproduction of striped bass in the Green and
Colorado Rivers during spawning season to assess the possible impacts on
endangered fish populations. A contract with the University of Idaho
was put into effect on April 1, 1980 to perform bioassays, perfect
cultural techniques and study the normal behavior of the humpback chub,
Colorado squawfish and Northern squawfish. Also competition with other
fish species common to the Colorado River will be investigated in laboratory
facilities available at the University. The aforementioned studies will
be done over a two year period from the dates the contracts were initiated.
Quarterly and interim reports will provide CRFP with data to meet reporting
dates specified in the FWS-BR memorandum of understanding (April 16,
1979). Table 1 shows the work to be done by the Universities and
hatcheries involved.
