31
1979 FIELD ACTIVITIES
Green River
l
I
Sampling Schedule
Sampling by the Vernal station was initiated on July 16, and continued
through October 24, 1979. During 1979, sampling.was conducted only
during the post-runoff river stage. Field work for the Vernal station
was dividedinto a standardized sampling program and a special investi-
gations program (see preceeding field investigation procedure chapter).
Systematic Sampling Program
i
The 1979 systematic program was responsible for studying approximately
300 miles of the Green River between Dinosaur National Monument and the
confluence with the Colorado River which was divided into six strata
(Table 3). The 1979 sampling schedule is presented in Table 5.
Special Investigations
One team from the Vernal station was employed to seine backwaters on 347
miles of the Green River from the Gates of Lodore at river mile 399 (RM
399) to Mineral Bottom (RM 52) in an effort to define the distribution
and abundance of young-of-the-year Colorado squawfish. Using 1/8 in (10
ft x 4 ft) and 1/4 in (15 ft x 6 ft) mesh seines, this team sampled at
least one backwater (when present) for every 2 mi of river.
