<br />recreation, fish and wildlife conservation, flood control, water quality control, <br />and area development. The Initial Phase consists of six units. The largest of <br />these is the Bonneville Unit, which involves the diversion of water from the <br />Uintah Basin, a part of the Colorado River Basin, to the Great Basin, with <br />associated resource developments in both Basins. The other five units, <br />Vernal, Uintah, Upalco, Jensen, and Ute Indian, provide for local development <br />in the Uintah Basin. <br /> <br />i. Bonneville Unit. Jordanelle Dam, a primary feature of the M&I system, <br />was topped off in October of 1992. Filling of the reservoir began in the <br />spring of 1993 along with completion of the installation of gates and control <br />and control structures. The amount of water stored in the reservoir on <br />December 1, 1995 was 210,821 acre-feet. <br /> <br />With the completion of the Hailstone Recreation Area at Jordanelle Reser- <br />voir in the summer of 1995, the recreation development is primarily finished. <br />The Rock Cliff recreation site, located along the Provo River upstream from <br />the dam, opened in the summer of 1994 and received moderate to heavy <br />recreational use throughout the summer. Access for persons with disabilities <br />is a priority for all facilities at Jordanelle. <br /> <br />Legislation introduced in 1991 by the Utah congressional delegation to <br />increase the ceiling to allow completion of the Bonneville Unit of the Central <br />Utah Project, primarily the irrigation and drainage (1&0) system, was passed <br />on October 30, 1992 as Public Law 102-575. The legislation allows the <br />Central Utah Water Conservancy District (District) to plan and construct the <br />1&0 system under the purview of the Department of the Interior. Planning <br />studies are underway by the District for this effort. <br /> <br />6. Wyoming <br /> <br />a. Lyman Project <br /> <br />Under the Safety of Dams Program, a contract for construction of a <br />concrete cutoff wall in Meeks Cabin Dam was awarded on July 26, 1993 to <br />Bauer of America Corporation of Waltham, Massachusetts for $5.9 million. <br />The cutoff wall was 'designed to reduce seepage through the dam and <br />increase its safety. The work was completed in the fall of 1995. <br /> <br />52 <br />
