<br />2. Flaming Gorge Storage Unit <br /> <br />Flaming Gorge Dam.and Powerplant were completed in 1963. Uprating <br />of the units in 1992 increased the plant nameplate capacity from 108 <br />megawatts (MW) to about 151 MW. Plans have been develop,ed to retrofit <br />the visitor center and dam tour areas to make the facilities fully accessible to <br />persons with disabilities. <br /> <br />Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, which surrounds Flaming Gorge <br />Dam and Reservoir, recorded approximately 2,OOO,000visitors during 1994. <br />The site is administered by the Ashley National Forest. Fishing is an <br />important recreational activity both on the reservoir and in the Green River <br />below the dam. <br /> <br />3. Navajo Storage Unit <br /> <br />The major purposes of Navajo Dam and Reservoir are to regulate the <br />flows of the San Juan River and to provide a water supply for the Navajo <br />Indian Irrigation Project near Farmington, the San Juan-Chama Participating <br />Project in the Rio Grande Basin, and the Hammond Participating Project, all <br />in New Mexico. Part of the water is also used for municipal and industrial <br />(M&I) purposes in northwestern New Mexico. Navajo Dam was completed <br />in 1963. <br /> <br />The Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation (CDPOR) and <br />Reclamation have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for water and <br />waste water improvements at Navajo State Park. The cooperative agreement <br />also provides for the rehabilitation of four existing sites administered by the <br />CDPOR on Reclamation projects lands on the Western Slope. <br /> <br />The State of New Mexico has also entered into a cooperative agreement <br />with Reclamation to upgrade and/or replace worn-out and over-used <br />recreation facilities on the New Mexico side of Navajo Reservoir. Total <br />visitation to Navajo Reservoir was 545.474 people for 1994. <br /> <br />4. Wayne N. Aspinall Storage Unit <br /> <br />The Aspinall Unit includes three major dams and powerp/ants in the <br />canyon of the Gunnison River downstream from Gunnison, Colorado and <br />upstream from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument. The <br />three dams are Blue Mesa, Morrow Point and Crystal. <br /> <br />Uprating of Morrow Point Dam generator units was completed in 1993. <br />The plant nameplate capacity was increased from 120 MW to 156 MW. <br /> <br />41 <br />
