<br />MEETINGS OF THE COMMISSION <br /> <br />During the Water Year ending September 30, 1996 the Commission met two <br />times as follows: <br /> <br />Meeting No. 231 <br /> <br />March 18, 1996 <br /> <br />Regular Meeting <br />Salt Lake City, Utah <br /> <br />Meeting No. 232 <br /> <br />July 18, 1996 <br /> <br />Adjourned <br />Regular Meeting <br />Denver, Colorado <br /> <br />ACTIVITIES OF THE COMMISSION <br /> <br />Within the scope and limitations of Article I(a) of the Upper Colorado River Basin <br />Compact and under the powers conferred upon the Commission by Article VIII(d), the <br />principal activities of the Commission have consisted of: (A) research and studies of an <br />engineering and hydrologic nature of various facets of the water resources of the Colorado <br />River Basin especially as related to operation ofthe Colorado River reservoirs; (B) collection <br />and compilation of documents for a legal library relating to the utilization of waters of the <br />Colorado River System for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes, and the <br />generation of hydroelectric power; (C) legal analyses of associated laws, court decisions, <br />reports and problems; (D) participation in activities and providing comments on proposals <br />that would increase the beneficial consumptive uses in the Upper Basin, including envi- <br />ronmental, fish and wildlife, endangered species and water quality activities to the extent <br />that they might impair Upper Basin development; (E) cooperation with water resources <br />agencies of the Colorado River Basin States on water and water-related problems; (F) an <br />education and information program designed to aid in securing appropriations of funds by <br />the United States Congress for the construction, planning and investigation of storage <br />dams, reservoirs and water resource development projects of the Colorado River Storage <br />Project that have been authorized for construction and to secure authorization for the <br />construction of adcfllional participating projects as the essential investigations and planning <br />are completed; and (G) a legislative program consisting of the analysis and study of water <br />resource bills introduced in the U.S. Congress for enactment, the preparation of evidence <br />and argument and the presentation of testimony before the Committees of the Congress. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />7 <br />
