Phase I involved locating and
mapping backwaters in the three reaches during late September. Phase II consisted of two 5-day field trips
to monitor ice formation and measure habitat availability within backwaters, and one aerial survey to monitor
ice conditions in the study area. Table 2 is a summary of purpose and dates for field trips conducted during
FY94. Additional monitoring of ice conditions were performed by employees of UDWR, Northeast Regional
Office in Vernal.

Table 2.

Purpose and dates of fields trips conducted for the WInter Ice Study below Flaming Gorge
Dam.

PURPOSE

DATES

Fall Mapping and Reconnaissance
Winter Ice Measurements I
Ground Reconnaissance of Study Area (UDWR)
Aerial Reconnaissance of Study Area
Winter Ice Measurements II

September 28 - October 1, 1993
January 31 - February 4, 1994
February 10, 1994
February 16, 1994
February 21 . 24, 1994

3
