POOL MAINTENANCE
Pool maintenance is performed after all demand water has been
allocated. The maintenance starts at the top of the basin
and works toward the bottom. At each reservoir, the routine
attempts to balance the reservoirs by releasing enough water
from upstream reservoirs to bring all reservoirs under
consideration to the same index level.
/\
/ 1 \
/\
/ 2 \
/\
/ 4 \
/ 3 \
(1) For reservoir 1, there is nothing to do.
(2) For reservoir 2, sum the target contents of reservoirs 1
and-2 (ST), the actual contents (SA),`the max contents (SX),
and the minimum contents (SN). Note that we will perform
pool maintenance only with reservoirs where the share flag
(from the RES card) is 0;'if the share flag was set (to 1) we
will not include the reservoir in the maintenance routine for
any other reservoir.
If the actual contents are over target (SA > ST) we are
interested in the fraction (SA-ST)/(SX-ST).
If the actual contents are under target (SA < ST) we are
interested in the fraction (SA-SM)/(ST-SM).
The fraction so obtained is either the fraction from target
to max, or the fraction from min to target. We would like
all reservoirs in the maintenance to have the same fraction,
and we'll achieve this by releasing water from upstream
reservoirs. If the fraction for reservoir 1 is above the
overall fraction, release water to bring it down to the
overall fraction and trap the release at reservoir 2.
21
