7. Channel catfish plants should be continued through at least 1985 because of
the relatively small numbers of fish which have been planted to date.
Stocking with 7 to 9 inch fish would be preferred, but if only 3 to 5 inch
channel catfish can be obtained, at least 200,000 should be stocked in each
of the next 2 years so the introduction can be evaluated during the 1987
full intensity creel survey.
4 8. Kokanee populations should continue to be expanded in Flaming Gorge until
such time that a decrease in the average length of spawning kokanee is
detected. At such time a decision will have to be made to adjust stocking
or increase creel limits in order to maintain a quality kokanee sport
fishery. Special emphasis should be made to establish the early run strain
in the Green River below Fontenelle Dam. The early run strain may be more
desirable for propagation in other waters of the state.
9. Evaluate the introductions of the Bonneville cisco and Bear Lake sculpin in
Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Depending on the success of these introductions,
study the forage value and life history of the emerald and spottail shiners
in other Wyoming reservoirs for possible planting in Flaming Gorge.
10. Fin-clip all the McConaughy, Eagle Lake and Gerrard (Kamloops) trout stocked
in Flaming Gorge so the specific strain can be identified. The following
clips will be used during the strain evaluation:
Eagle Lake - Adipose
McConaughy - Left Pelvic
Gerrard (Kamloops) - Right Pelvic
Dye-marks will be used to identify year class as specified below:
1986 - Yellow
1987 - Green
1988 - Red Dye-Mark

-21-
