The latest <br />versions of these plans have been reviewed, and approval by the Regional <br /> <br />- <br />Director, USFWS, Region 6,- Denver, Colorado is expected during 1990. <br /> <br />Colorado River Endangered Fishes Researchers Meetings <br /> <br />Since 1983, fishery biologists and other researchers from state and <br /> <br />federal agencies, universities, and private consulting firms in the upper <br />basin have held an annual researchers meeting sponsored by~he states of <br />Colorado and Utah. The open communication and coordination provided by this <br />meeting has been effective at integrating research efforts among biologists~ <br />Communication among biologists from the upper and lower basins has been <br />enhanced as well through annual meetings of the Desert Fishes Council and <br /> <br />- <br />through meetings of the CRFRT. <br /> <br />American Fisheries Society (AFS)' <br /> <br />Members of the Endangered Species Committee, Bonneville Chapter of the <br />AFS, wrote a position paper in 1974 that strongly supported protection of <br />natural habitats and native species that are threatened, endangered, or of <br /> <br />special concern in Utah (Holden et Al. 1974). Members of the Threatened and <br />Endangered Species Committee of AFS developed systematic guidelines and <br />policies for introductions of threatened and endangered fishes to supplement <br />existing populations or to establish new populations (Williams et Al. 1988). <br />These recommended guidelines focus on planning, implementation, and <br />evaluation of introductions in ways intended to increase probability of <br /> <br />success in recovery.
