ry? r <br />y <br />x <br />Considerations - Point sources of toxic contaminants should <br />be identified and solutions determined to control such <br />sources from contaminating the waters of the upper basin. <br />Areas where mineral resources occur have been identified and <br />the potential for leaching of toxic contaminants from such <br />areas through mining should be determined so that adequate <br />biological opinions can be formed in reviewing permit <br />applications. Measures to control the point sources of such <br />contaminants should be outlined for use in making biological <br />opinions. The use of chemicals in agriculture should be <br />investigated to determine the extent and possible <br />significance in causing mortality of rare fish. Bioassays <br />can be done under laboratory conditions to determine the <br />toxicity of the substances to the rare organisms. <br />Recommendations can be suggested for application of such <br />chemicals to allow time for their breakdown or control the <br />use of the highly toxic substances. <br />17
