-11 - <br />LIKM,11100D OF SURWIVAL <br />Our specimen was taken from the most recent significant <br />find of Cila cyrha. It appears that dam construction, causing <br />lower water temperature and fluctuating water levels, has created <br />impossible spawning habitat. These environmental conditions, <br />coupled with reduced numbers, have apparently trigb'ered Lybrid- <br />ization between G. cynha and G. elepans (also endangered) further <br />decreasing G. cypha's likelihood of survival. <br />Considering that G. cypha has virtually disappeared from its <br />former range, chances of lasting much longer look remote. 'n however, <br />offers a large river habitat with deep holes that may prove to be <br />a refuge for these struggling fish.
