• Section 1 of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 requires Federal
agencies to insure that actions authorized, funded, or carried out by
them do not jeopardize the continued existence of endangered species or
threatened species or result in the destruction or adverse modification
of habitat considered critical to their continued survival. Formal con-
sultation, as described in the Interagency Cooperation Regulations
(Federal Register, January 4, 1978, 43(2.):870-876), with the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service is required if a Federal agency determines their
activities may affect an endangered or threatened species. If formal
consultation has been initiated for any of the projects listed here, a
notation was made on the data sheet.
