COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
DjV$S4c;, or govt nn of
INTER-OFFICE COrL*:UNICATION
TO Yvonne Herman
DATE May 21, 1984
FROM: Clarence E. Lott, Jr. SUBJECT: Toxaphene Analysis
s.

On April 5, 1984, you submitted a series of six pesticide sample extracts
for GC/MS analysis for the possible presence of toxaphene. The extracts
were concentrated and subjected to capillary gas chromatographic sepera-
tion followed by mass spectral characterization. The analytical results
are given on Table I.
Table I
GC/MS Results
Sam,ole n Lab I# Results
FL-1515 9100 No toxaphene detected
FL-1516 9101 r:o, toxaphene detected
FL-1517 9102 No toxaphene detected
FL-1518 9103 No toxaphene detected
FL-1519 9104 No toxaphene detected
FL-1520 9105 No toxaphene detected
The mass spectral data did, however, indicate the presence of some DDE and
other low level unknown chlorinated compounds. These compounds were not
PCB's. Insufficient mass spectral data was available for a positive identi-
fication due to the use of selected ion monitoring to attain required sen=
sitivity for toxaphene analysis.
1arence E.
