Humpback chub studies were initiates in 1983 in the Black Rocks and <br />Westwater Canyon areas of the upper Colorado River. The Black Rocks <br />area of the Colorado River in western Colorado is a narrow, deep-water <br />habitat formed by passage of the river through a relatively erosion- <br />resistant igneous rock layer. Westwater Canyon, a narrow, deep-water <br />habitat of similar geologic origin, is located about 15 river miles (RM) <br />downstream in eastern Utah. Our research effort in 1983 was limited <br />` primarily to the Black Rocks river reach (Figure 1). <br /> <br />3 <br />
