Application for Water Rights of the Eagle River Water& Sanitation District
March 5, 2002
Alan C. Martellaro, P.E.
Page 40
on where I said the -- what I think was a bike
path, I can't recall, it's been so long, but
that was submerged, there was an eddy in there.
Q. How would you describe the
differences in the flow of water as it passes
through the white-water courses as compared to
the flow of the water immediately upstream or up
river of those white-water courses?
A. I'm not sure I could respond on the
channel above the course, but below the course,
which I suspect would be similar to the way the
f low was before the course was constructed, the
depths are relatively uniform, the flows are --
the velocities are fairly fast, probably not
conducive to boating in especially lower flows.
Q. And how do the course structures
change that?
A. The course structures reduce
velocities in places that creates a higher water
surface profile, and therefore a drop that
creates a wave downstream and appears to make it
boatable even in relatively low flows.
Q. Do the course structures deflect
water?
A. Yes.
I Esquire Deposition Services (303) 316-0330
