<br />This memo has been preparcd to summarize rccent studies to evaluate potential reser-voir sites in the
<br />lipper Y"ampa River Basin. As used in this memo, the lipoer Yampa River Basin is considerc-d the
<br />headwaters of the Yampa River, above its contluence with Fish Creek.
<br />Small Reservoir Studv
<br />In)anuary 1999, IIWH initiated work for the Colorado River Water Conservation District (CRWCD)
<br />on a program to identify potential small reser-voir sites in the Yampa River Basin. Small reservoir
<br />sices were de6ned as those sices with potential scorage volume ranging beRVeen 200 and 2,000 ac-ft.
<br />Phase 1 of the program, completed in February 2000, idcntified 106 potentiai reservoir sitcs for
<br />consideration. Through preliminary scrcening, the number of sites was reduced to 24 reser-voir sites
<br />throu?hout the Yampa River drainage for further evaluation in Phase 2. The results of Phase 1 are
<br />documented in Y'ampa Rlver Bn.rin Srrrall Reserzvir Stardy (NIontgomery Watson, 2000a). Phase 2 of the
<br />Small Reservoir Program completed in August 2000 (NIontgornery Watson, 2000b) was a
<br />continuation of the initial sma11 reservoiL study to further evaluate potential storage sites in the Yampa
<br />River Basin.
<br />Fourteen of the 106 reservoir sites identifed in Phase 1 of the Small Reservoir Project were in the
<br />Upper Yampa River. These reservoir sites were above the contluence of the Yampa River and
<br />Service Creek and are presented in Table 1, Upper Y"ampa Re.rerzvir,Site.r f'rom Snrall Re.rervoir Study. These
<br />sites included eleven pocential locations for new reservoirs and espansion of three existing reservoirs.
<br />Esisting reservoirs thaC were evaluated for potentiai enlargement were Lake Creek Reservoir, Allen
<br />Basir Reservo:r and Crosho Lane.
