Common, <br />protected by game fish regulations <br /> <br />STATE BY STATE SUMMARY OF AUTHORITY AND MANAGEMENT POLICY <br />FOR THREATENED AND NONGAME SPECIES <br /> <br />Arizona - The Department of Game and Fish has authority to establish programs for <br />~nagement and preservation of all wildlife, Two biBtDgists are assigned to <br />nongame species, with the emphasis on federally recognized endangered <br />or threatened species, The Department has publisheda list of "Threatened <br />Wildlife of Arizona," <br /> <br />California - The Department of Fish and Game has authority to prolect and manage rare, <br />endangered and threatened species, and it has a cooperative agreement <br />with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 10 work with endangered species on <br />the federal list. The Department has three full-time wildlife biologistsand <br />two full-time fishery bi.ologists assigned to rare and endangered and ' <br />and nongame species. <br />. Colorado - The Division of Wildlife has statutory authority to protect4llld manage all wildlife <br />including state and federally listed threatened and endangered species as <br />well as species classified as nongame, The C01arado Nongame Staff <br />consists of one supervisor, one secretary and five biologists involved in <br />research and management of aquatics, birds. malNlals, reptiles, amphib- <br />ians and raptors. Primary emphasis is directed at recovery of state and <br />federally listed threatened and endangered specieS by captive breeding, <br />translocation or reintroduction. Federal grant-ifHiid funds, through the <br />Endangered Species Act of1973, are being used inrecovery programs, On <br />June 3, 1977, the Governor signed into law a bit which provides for a <br />check-off box on state income tax forms and a1Dws the taxpayers to <br />donate, 1, 5 or 10 dollars of their refund to the nongame program budget. <br /> <br />13 <br /> <br />'t <br />
