FISH
collected by Colorado Fish and Game in SURVEY
1940's, 1950's, and 1960's. pers. comm. SPAWNING
Richard Wydowski, Utah State University, GREEN R.
Logan. YAMPA R.
SAN JUAN R,
This letter is a summary of old Colorado Fish COLORADO R.
and Game collections in the Green, Yampa, WHITE R.
White, Colorado, and San Juan rivers. It's LITTLE SNAKE R,
primary use was to show where and when Colorado 1, 3
squawfish were caught. It mentions young of
the year squawfish from the Little Snake River
(probably at mouth near Yampa River). Bony tail
and roundtail may be misidentified at times but
squawfish identifications appear accurate.
Young squawfish from the Little Snake (Yampa
River) River are questionable. squawfish spawn
in late July or August when the Yampa River is
too low to float. The collections were made on
afloat trip but no date is given except 1963.
214. Lynch, T. M., S. Bessire, and J. Gray. 1950. SURVEY
Elementary survey of Dolores River, from STOCKING
Utah line to Paradox Valley, Colorado. HABITAT
Colorado Division of Wildlife, Denver. 3 DQLORES R,
PP•
The Dolores River is a tributary of the Colorado
and joins the mainstream in Utah. The Colorado
River has been stocked with catfish in Arizona,
Utah, and below Grand Junction, Colorado.
Catfish have been caught in the Dolores though
none have ever been known to have been stocked.
They were most numerous during and after high
water. This paper is a preliminary investigation
of possible stocking habitat for the channel
catfish in the Dolores River.
89
