INTRODUCTION
Papers have been classified under three general categories:
I. Subject (broad headings); II. Geographic Area (river or lake
in which the work was carried out); III. Systematic (species dealt
with within the paper).
I. Subject
A total of 62 subject headings were used to classify papers. While
their meanings are generally obvious, a brief resume of our interpre-
tation of the words is included. Generally the broadest possible mean-
ing is attached to each heading.
Because of the limited number of headings, and the broad inter-
pretation attached to each, there are obvious overlaps in the usage
of headings. We have selected headings that are .pertinent to the paper
in question. Each paper has been cataloged under miltiple headings
indicative of the scope of the paper.
The subject headings (key words) are listed for each reference
in the right-hand margin of the page to assist in a quick scan of the
major subjects included in the paper.
The subject headings and their meanings are as follows:
ABUNDANCE - the number of individuals or species in an area, popula-
tion, or community.
AGE AND GROWTH - age, growth, size, eingth/weight relationship, methods
utilized to obtain age.
AGRICULTURE - the effect of cultivation on the aquatic habitat.
BEHAVIOR - ethology, qualitative behavior, the way an organism acts
or responds.
BIBLIOGRAPHY - a list of writings pertaining to a particular subject.
COMPETITION - the condition that exists between organisms when resources
are limited.
CREEL CENSUS - fishery investigative technique, utilizing angler
harvest.
5
