IMPOUNDMENTS - artificial construction utilized to collect and store <br />water for irrigation. <br />INVERTEBRATES - any of various organisms lacking a backbone; used <br />as indicators of environmental quality and often utilized <br />as food by fish. <br />IRRIGATION - agricultural technique in supplying water for crop pro- <br />duction and the effects of return flows on the environment. <br />KEYS - a systematic text for the separation and identification of <br />fish species. <br />LIFE HISTORY - pertaining to the stages and phases an organism passes <br />through. <br />LIMNOLOGY - pertaining to the physical and chemical and biological <br />qualities of freshwater. <br />MANAGEMENT - pertaining to the practices related to the control and <br />maintenance of fisheries. <br />MIGRATION - movements from or to a specific area related to spawning. <br />MINING - the process of extracting areas, as they pertain to alteration <br />of natural habitat. <br />MOVEMENTS - a change of position within a defined area. <br />PALAEOICHTHYOLOGY - PALAEOICHTHY. - the study of ancient fish fossils; <br />pertaining to ancient distribution of fish. <br />PHYSIOLOGY - pertaining to the processes and mechanics by which an <br />organism functions. <br />PLANKTON - papers dealing with microscopic plants and animals found <br />in water, often utilized for food. <br />POLLUTION - contamination of the natural habitat, usually man induced. <br />POPULATION - a group of interacting individuals o~ the same species <br />in a common spatial arrangement. <br />POWER - pertaining to energy generations and its effect on habitat. <br />PRODUCTIVITY - the capacity of an environment to produce plant and <br />animal life. <br />PROPAGATION - to increase in numbers by artificial means. <br />REPRODUCTION - <br />RESEARCH - pertaining to the systematic investigation of fish. <br />SALINITY - pertaining to pollution related to high salt concentration. <br />7 <br />
