~ -5-
feed; consequently, streamflows are heavily diverted during the summer
months, and short stretches of stream are sometimes dewatered. Although
~ much of the project area is underlain with coal deposits, mining is
not currently an important industry. It may, however, become the
dominant economic activity in the next decade and would require
~ significant quantities of water if the coal is converted on site.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
~ The Savery-Pot Hook Project has been designed to provide a full-service
water supply to 14,670 acres of presently nonirrigated land (much of it
not now under any kind of cultivation) and supplemental water to
~ 14,330 acres of irrigated land. This would be accomplished by storage
and regulation of the flows of Savery and Slater Creeks (tributaries
of the Little Snake River) together with the use of direct flow
~ diversions from Willow Creek and the Little Snake River, and project
developed return flows. Approximately 17,175 acres of publicly owned
Land (7,940 Federal, 7,680 State of Colorado, 1,555 State of Wyoming)
~ would be acquired for project development. Most of this would be
sold to individuals-for enlargement of existing farms.

Major project features would include: (1) Savery Reservoir to be
constructed on Savery Creek in Wyoming about 18 miles above its
confluence with the Little Snake River; (2) a diversion structure
