Title: Colorado squawfish spawning (staging) depth utilization curve.
Parameters: Total water column depth (ft)
Period: 1 Jul - 31 Aug
Location: Yampa River (RM 4-31)
Date utilized:
Yampa River radio observations in the spawning reach (RM 4-3I) 1981,
1983 and 1984.
Data excluded:
1. All adult squawfish observations other than on the Yampa River
spawning reach during the spawning season because they do not
represent spawning habitat preference.
2. Radio observations for Colorado squawfish in the spawning reach
on riffles or runs and waters less than 5.5 ft deep. Those
habitats represent another facet of spawning behavior called egg
deposition for which a separate curve has been developed.
Assumptions:
1. Depth measured in the location of radio telemetered fish in deep
runs and eddies on the spawning reach accurately reflect depth
preference for spawning (staging) Colorado squawfish.
Constraints:
1. Depth curve is applicable only for staging/resting habitats used
during spawning in the Yampa River spawning reach (RM 4-31).
2. Curves apply only to deep pool/eddy reaches where Colorado
squawfish have been- observed congregating for spawning.
Curve coordinates:
X (f t) Y (SI)
2.0 0.0
5.0 1.0.
10.0 1.0
-6-
