At the intensive sites, flannelmouth
and bluehead suckers, and roundtail chub again were highest in relative
abundance (Figure 3). White sucker were also high in abundance at the
uppermost site, Juniper Springs. Within the Cleopatra's Couch intensive of
Yampa Canyon, channel catfish were also relatively high in abundance (25%)
and equal in number captured (n=20) to roundtail chub (Figure 3). Three
squawfish and two humpback chub were collected at the Yampa Canyon intensive
site. At the upper intensive sites, five squawfish were collected, including
one that was observed but not captured at the Sunbeam site. Among introduced
species collected were three northern pike at Lilly Park and one smallmouth
10
bass (Micropterus dolomieui) at Juniper Springs. Two additional squawfish
were collected by angling at Juniper Springs; these were special samples
a
since they were not collected by standardized sampling methods.
Intervening sampling was conducted at several sites in Yampa Canyon and
one site near the Sunbeam area.
