Projec t Type: Spillway <br />The Riverside Reservoir and Land Company (Company) owns and operates the 64 ,000 acre - foot <br />capacity Riverside Dam and Reservoir, an inlet canal known as Riverside Ditch, and a river <br />diversion structure located near the town of Kersey, Colorado. The Company diverts water from <br />the South Platte River, approximately 10 miles downstre am of Greeley, Colorado. It stores water <br />primarily during winter months for irrigation releases during the following water season. The <br />Company, formed in 1902, delivers irrigation water to approximately 50,000 acres. The Company <br />is applying for a loan t o install a spillway at Riverside Reservoir (Reservoir). The Reservoir is not <br />equipped with an emergency spillway, which is required by the DWR's Rules and Regulations for <br />Dam Safety and Dam Construction . There is currently a nominal restriction of 0.05 feet (200 AF of <br />storage loss) due to the lack of a spillway. In order to enhance the safety of the Reservoir and <br />prevent further storage restrictions, the Company plans on constructing an emergency spillway. <br />The final design is expected to be complete in January 2010 with construction occurring from July <br />2010 through March 2011. <br />19. Huefano - Cucharas Irrigation Company – Cucharas Reservoir Rehabilitation <br />Authorization: Severance Tax Fund County: Peublo/Huerfano <br />Water Source : Cucharas River Project Yield: 7,500 AF (New) <br />Terms of Loan: $1,622,060 @2.5% for 3 0 yrs. Projec t Type: Reservoir Rehabilitation <br />The Huerfano - Cucharas Irrigation Company (Company) provides irrigation water to farmers in <br />the Arkansas valley. The Company was organized in 19 44 and currently has 47 shareholders. The <br />Company owns and operates the Cucharas Reservoir, located east of Walsenburg. The dam is a <br />145 - foot high rock fill dam that has undergone several enlargements since the original <br />construction in 1914. The reservoir has a capacity of 35,395 acre - feet. A storage restriction has <br />been in place since 1988 with a deadline of October 1, 2010, imposed by the SEO either to <br />rehabilitate the existing dam, replace it with a new dam or a zero no - storage restriction will be <br />impos ed followed by an order to breach the dam and remove the hazard it represents. The <br />Company plans to rehabilitate the existing dam to allow a reduced level (7,500 AF) of storage. <br />The Project involves lowering the spillway, replacing outlet gates, installin g a satellite monitoring <br />system, and updating a new Emergency Action Plan. Pending SEO plan approval, project <br />construction is expected to begin during the winter of 2009/2010. <br /> <br />
