WATER PROJECT CONSTRUCTION LOAN PROGRAM
PROJECT INFORMATION
Grantee:
Project Name:
Project Type:
Counties:
Drainage Basin:
Water Source:
Colorado Water Conservation Board
Lower South Platte Water Management and
Storage Sites Investigation
Multi-Use Water Planning Study, possible emphasis on agriculture
Logan and Sedgwick
South Platte
South Platte River
Amount of Grant Request: $ 500,000 Estimated Total Project Cost: $ 500,000
The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) acting through their Water Supply
Protection Section is currently conducting a Reconnaissance Level Study of Water
Management and Storage Sites in the lower South Platte River. The Reconnaissance
Level Study will identify a preferred alternative(s) that has a reasonable probability of
success, and warrant further investigation. This grant request is to provide funding to
conduct a feasibility level study of these "preferred alternative(s)", and if warranted,
complete an engineering design of the selected alternative(s).
The overall purpose of the project is to identify water management and storage options in
the lower South Platte River that could facilitate Colorado's management of South Platte
flows, including coordination with ground water recharge project, for in-state beneficial
uses, such as water right and South Platte River Compact administration and providing
benefits for biological species of concern in Colorado, and for participation in an
endangered species program being developed pursuant to the Platte River Cooperative
Agreement. These issues are of state-wide interest and require prompt evaluation and
timely resolution. The study is being conducted with input from Northern Colorado
Water Conservancy District, Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District, Ground
Water Appropriators of the South Platte, and Denver Water. The Reconnaissance Level
Study is scheduled for completion in May 2001. Funding from this grant will allow
CWCB to swiftly initiate the Feasibility Study in July 2001 and complete this work by
January 2002. The engineering design will begin in February 2002 and be complete in
July 2002.
Please see the reverse side of this page for a map of the project location.
-., - -,,
