Table 1. Release Guidelines for the Environmental Account for the Water Year 2001 (The two ulse./low eriods are shaded)
March 23 - May 10* 2,400 whooping crane, fish community, piping Medium Projected flows indicate that average and/or
2,400 plover, least tern, sandhill crane dry targets will not be met. A medium priority
1,700 will be given to maintaining adequate base
flows during this period for spring migrarion.
See comments for Feb./Mar Period.
May 1- June 30' 10-yeaz ninning The principal affected resources are river and High See comments for Feb. 16 - March 15 Period.
average of 30-day ripatian wetland processes such as
exceedance for 3,400 maintaining channel morphology; sediment
cfs, and 5-day supply; sandbar formation; nutrient cycling;
exceedance of 8,300- backwater habitats; groundwater recharge;
10,500 cfs and behavioral cues for fish spawning;
reproduction, movement, and redistdbution.
May 11 - Sept 15* 1,200 fish community, least tern Medium Projections indicate that shortages to dry
1,200 targets will occur during September.
800 Historically, fish kills have occurred during this
period which could adversely affect fish
community health and jeopardize tem food
sources. Flow condirions, irrigarion demand,
and temperatures will be closely monitored
during this period to insure adequate flows are
maintained.
Sept 16 - Sept 30 1,000 fish community Low Projecrions indicate shortages to dry flow
1,000 targets during this period. Because lower
600 ambient temperatures and decreasing irrigation
demand during this time period typically result
in improved river conditions, though not
guaranteed, a lower priority is given.
However, flow conditions, irrigarion demand,
and temperatures will continue to be closely
monitored.
Water Year 2001 EA AOP 13 January 3, 2001
