General Comments - Habitat Management Document
Overall I find that the document contains a significant number of generalized statements
that could be over interpreted or misleading. It is apparent that the authors attempted to
address this by referencing the entity that provided the information. It is suggested that a
general statement be included in the document to encourage individuals to not over
interpret the information or draw firm conclusions unless definitive data support such
conclusions. I suggest the following language be added. "The information contained in
this document was obtained from a variety of sources and is intended to provide decision
makers with some general information regarding habitat management methods in the
Central Platte. In some cases the information was obtained based on casual observations
and/or was based on a very limited data set. Consequently, the information in this
document should not be considered prescriptive in terms of habitat management goals
and objectives and the conclusions stated should be viewed cautiously. Careful
consideration and site specific planning needs to occur when making decisions regarding
habitat acquisition and management. This document should simply be considered one
tool that can be consulted when making these difficult decisions."
More information on vegetation would be helpful. Data on percent cover, species
composition, and successional trends for managed and unmanaged lands in terms of
general objectives may aid decision makers.
3
