8/9/99 RECOMMENDATION OF CRITERIA FOR <br />PROGRAM HABITAT CONSERVATION <br />CATEGORY II (Habitat to be restored) <br />1. DEFINITION OF LAND TO BE INCLUDED <br />Wet Meadows Habitat <br />Either land located within 1 mile <br />of the river that will be restored <br />to wet meadows or existing wet <br />meadows located more than 1 <br />mile from the river or suitable <br />roosting site, but within the <br />Central Platte River area. <br />II. ENCOURAGED/ACCEPTABLE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES <br />Wet Meadows Habitat <br />Same as Category I wet <br />meadow habitat practices. <br />Roosting/Nestine Habitat <br />Roosting/nesting habitat can be <br />either river channel or land near <br />the river that will be restored to <br />roosting/nesting habitat.z <br />Z There was discussion about the <br />meaning of near. It was left <br />intentionally vague to allow for <br />inclusion of good sites. <br />Roosting/Nesting Habitat <br />Same as Category I <br />roosting/nesting habitat <br />practices. <br />Cropland <br />Cropland adjacent to wet <br />meadows. Cropland acres <br />should be kept to a minimum <br />unless they are to be restored to <br />a wet meadow or roosting <br />habitat. <br />Cropl and <br />1. Raising of grain crops, <br />alfalfa, clovers or grasses. <br />2. Conversion to a wet <br />meadow or roosting/nesting <br />habitat. <br />III. UNACCEPTABLE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES <br />Wet Meadows Habitat <br />Same as Category I <br />unacceptable management <br />practices. <br />Roosting/Nesting Habitat <br />Same as Category I <br />unacceptable management <br />practices. <br />Cropland <br />Conversion from cropland <br />unless converted to wet <br />meadows or roosting/nesting <br />habitat. <br />3
