Reservoir Operating Studies
average monthly flows in the runoff period are relatively small (e.g., 1-2%) when considered
in terms of the total flaw at Maybell. Although it cannot be determined from monthly model
results, it is not likely that storage in the enlarged Elkhead will have a significant effect on peak
flows at Maybell since the peak daily flow on Elkhead Creek occurs roughly two weeks before
the peak daily flow at Maybell, an interval that exceeds the travel time from Elkhead to
Maybell. Furthermore, Elkhead Creek contributes less than 5 % of the annual flow at Maybell;
peak flows at Maybell are much more likely to be controlled by the unregulated contributions
of the Elk and Williams Fork Rivers and tributaries such as Walton and Trout Creeks.
Details of this operational scenario can be found in Appendix G.
2-24
