Am.-Fish.
Soc. 104:217-231.
Fishes were collected on the Yampa, Green,
lower Gunnison and Colorado rivers. Of the 29
species collected, 19 had been introduced.
The authors state that the decline of native
species is probably due to an alteration of
the habitat by high dams and the introduction
of exotic fish species.
ABUNDANCE, ALTERATION, COLORADO RIVER DRAINAGE,
COMPETITION, DISTRIBUTION, ENDANGERED, HABITAT,
HYBRIDIZATION., REPRODUCTION, STREAM FLOW
182
Holden, P. B., and C. B. Stalnaker. 1975.
Distribution of fishes in the Dolores and
Yampa River systems of the upper Colorado
basin. Southwest. Nat. 19:403-412.
The abundance of fish in the Dolores and Yampa
Rivers in relation to turbidity and water
temperature is discussed. The Yampa River is
determined to be an important- refuge and
spawning site for rare and endangered fish,
whereas the Dolores may have a negative
influence on their survival.
ABUNDANCE, COLORADO RIVER DRAINAGE, ENDANGERED,
HABITAT,, MIGRATION, MOVEMENT,~POLLUTION,
REPRODUCTION, STREAM FLOW, WATER QUALITY--
Physical
.183
Holden, P. Prepared for U.S. Fish
and Wildl. Serv., Office of Biol. Serv.,
WELUT, PR-16-2, Annu. Rep. 107pp.
In 1978 the p:nstock inlets of Flaming Gorge
Dam were modir'ied to warm the tailwaters to
improve the trout fishery and enhance repro-
duction of rare fish in Dinosaur National
Monument. This study documents existing
species composition and relative abundance of
benthic macroinvertebrates and fish in the
Green and Yampa Rivers. It compares composi-
tion and relative densities of invertebrates
before and after modifications and assesses
changes in the distribution and reproduction
of Green River fishes as a result of altered
temperatures.
ABUNDANCE, AGE/GROWTH, ALTERATION, COLORADO
RIVER DRAINAGE, DISTRIBUTION ENDANGERED,
FISHERY-Sport, HABITAT, HISTORY, INVENTORY,
INVERTEBR4~TES--~Benthos, MOVEMENT, REPRODUCTION,
STREAM FLOW, WATER QUALITY--Physical
184
Holden, P. Wildl.,
Denver. 17pp. (Uapubl.)
The Colorado squawfish, bonytail, humpback
chub, and razorback sucker, all endemic to the
Colorado .River basin, are listed by the State
or Federal government as endangered or threat-
ened. These fishes have been declining due to
alterations of the Colorado River system.
This paper reviews literature on the status
and natural life histories of these fishes.
ABUNDANCE, AGE/GROWTH, COLORADO RIVER DRAINAGE,
CULTURE, DESCRIPTION, DISTRIBUTION, ENDANGERED,
FOOD, HABITAT, HYBRIDIZATION, IM/ERTEBRATES--
Benthos, Plankton, MIGRATION, NATURAL HISTORY,
POLLUTION, REPRODUCTION, WATE~2 QUALITY- --
Chemical, Physical
186
Horak, D. 1961.
