C7
The development of a bonytail broodstock is currently being undertaken by Wahweap State Fish
. Hatchery. This broodstock is being developed from the bonytail broodstock currently maintained
at Dexter National Fish Hatchery. The bonytail at Dexter NFH represent all known genetic
variation within the species. Thus, the bonytail broodstock developed at Wahweap will
incorporate the available genetic variability of bonytail.
. The State of Utah Stocking Plan for Endangered Fish Species of the Upper Colorado River Basin
(Hudson et aL 1999) identified stocking objectives to achieve the Interim Management Objectives
(Lentsch et al. 1998) for razorback sucker and bonytaiL The RIP has directed revision of this
stocking plan as well as the Colorado stocking plan (Kesler 1998) to include stocking objectives
needed to achieve the aduh minimum viable population size objectives identified in the revised
recovery plans (USFWS in draft). This plan now includes revised stocking objectives for
~ razorback sucker and bonytail in Utah, justification of numbers of fish to be stocked and stocking
sites, and risk assessment of stocking these species in the recommended sites.
r

Os.~c~'[vEs
The primary goal of this revised stocking plan is to establish a minimum viable population of
razorback sucker in the Green River and three minimum viable populations of bonytail in the
Green and Colorado rivers. There are three objectives to be met through the implementation of
this plan:
1) Augment the Green River razorback sucker population through annual stocking for five
years at two sites in Utah to achieve the minimum viable population of razorback sucker in
the Green River.
~ 2) Augment the lower Green River and Colorado River bonytail populations through annual
stocking for seven years at two sites in Utah to meet the minimum viable population of
bonytail in the lower Green River and the Colorado River in Utah.
3) Reintroduce and establish a bonytail population in the middle Green River through annual
~ stocking for seven years at one site in Utah to met the minimum viable population of
bonytail in the middle Green River.
The objectives of this stocking plan are meant to continue previous stocking efforts under
guidance of the Genetics Management Plan (Czapla 1999) with the intent of contn~buting toward
~ recovery of razorback sucker and bonytail as defined by the respective recovery plans (USFWS in
draft).

3
